2005 Sirion tapping noise underload!

Forum:

I have a 2005 sirion which has done 75k miles but there is a tapping noise which starts at a certain rev when driving it comes at about 2k but goes if i put my foot down. When the engine is on tickover it sounds fine no clunks ticks etc.

I have recently done an engine flush to see if it was a sticky lifter or vavle but that didnt do anything, the car isnt loosing power and runs smooth just this ticking when it is pulling.

Could this be something catching in the engine bay like a pipe or the exhaust tapping? :S Help please it drives me crazy!

Tapping noise

Sounds like it's "pinking". Just a noise that engines make when they're running lean (or ignition timing too advanced). The reason it goes when you put your foot down is that you're injecting more petrol to aid acceleration, this richens up the fuel/air mixture and eliminates the noise. I really don't think it's anything to worry about, most modern engines run a lean mixture to get better fuel economy. Using Super Unleaded or a fuel addative may help if it bothers you that much.
Of course, I could be completely wrong! If so, I'm sure someone else on here will have better knowledge than me.
