1990 Charade 1.3 Carb - Spluttering under load when cold?

Forum:

Hello everyone, I have a hit and miss problem with my '90 charade 1.3 CX

When cold or warming up(With or without the choke on) if I depress the accelerator to any more than around 1/3 throttle the car miss-fires when accelerating, as if it is running on 3 cylinders but I can't pinpoint which one it is as it only happens under load.

This didn't happen when I first got the car and has got gradually worse from the odd little "blip" every now and again to struggling to pull away on hill starts.

When its warmed up and at full operating temperature the problem normally goes away but sometimes gradually fades away. As in the spluttering will go away until a higher rpm and eventually to running completely smooth, its kind of hard to explain.

I have noticed the coil seems to "tick" pretty loud when the car is idling, so I am wonder if the coil is possibly breaking down due to age, but normally from my experience a shot coil gets worse when warm, Also the weather doesn't seem to affect the issue.

Any advice would be great, I am going to check the spark plugs this weekend, the distributer is clean inside the cap as is the rotor arm and the spark plug leads are genuine daihatsu and fairly recent.

Thanks, Mike.
