rear axle seized due to back

Forum:

Wotcha all, my first post on here
I have a 92 fourtrac 2.8td
Got it cheap as rotten so rebuilt sills and made a new complete wheel arch as I was not paying £200 for a new bit of steel. I used to restore cars years ago so welding aint a problem even on rotten things like this. Anyway after mot I used it to tow which was fine. last week while driving at 30 the rear end seized solid ffs put me sideways.
No oil left in axle, due to back plate corrosion grrr its my own fault I wanted to wait for spring before doing next round re propshafts and axle seals.
My question is after I took prop off I assumed I could use the front axle to get it on the trailor but nope it wouldn't. Is this right I struggled and hand winched the ###t up on the trailor getting it off was simple strapped it to a tree and drove off so it came off.
Its typical I had fully served it checked and topped up all oils only a couple of weeks ago, so you can say I,m p##d off at it. I'm fitting another axle today and got a spare back plate with it so shouldn't have to fret over it happening again, come spring I'll take back plate off and epoxy inside and out
Just one other question I thought the engine in a 92 had a timing belt but this is timing gears any one know which lump it is
Cheers
Mick

It should have moved on the

It should have moved on the front axle alone, unless you have manual hubs and didn't engage them or you have auto hubs which are neglected and broken internally.

Your engine should have a timing belt and if it hasn't it would appear to be an earlier 2.5 from a F50 model which is the most likely option.
