F73 rumble

Forum:

hi all,ive owned this swb f73 for 2 months now and have (on a slim budget) been ticking of problems one by one, now i need to adress the ... rumble i get on slow moving away and when the engine is slowing on over run, its around the mid/ back area,im thinking of hitting the grease gun around the shafts etc first as its inexpensive to start with and then ......??? as you can tell im not that clued up on the workings but am practical minded and not afraid to get stuck in, so any input/advice would be welcome. cheers,Mark.

Is it slightly more difficult

Is it slightly more difficult changing gear between 2nd and 3rd? if so then its the mainshaft nut on the gearbox.

Go under the vehicle and look at the rear of the transfer case above where the rear propshaft comes out, above it is a bra shaped aluminium cover at approximately 45 degrees, remove this and you will see two shafts, get a 30mm six point socket and put it onto the top nut and pull it as tight as you can, but remember it is a staked nut and will require unstaking, and staking again when you tighten it up.

rumble f73

ok so i checked the drive shaft for any movement and found nothing at all then i greased every nipple i could find and managed to push a load of old gritty looking black grease out replasing it with nice new stuff ,.....but....... in the process managed to bash me head on the exhaust back box and guess what ,... the same noise!!!!! whilst rubng my head i grabbed the end pipe and wangled it about, yep that was deffinatly one of the rumle type noises, under closer inspection noticed that the back box had no rubbers and then, that there wasnt actually any brackets on the underside of me motor to hang any rubbers for the back box?,nothing? the back box has 2 large bars to loop rubbers on,so i guess i could get some brackets made up and welded on,iv looked on line to find images of how the origonal bracket where located and look like but not had any joy yet,no doubt ill sort it. so once again thanks very much for your past input, cheers,Mark.
