welding front diff ?

Forum:

I use my 4trak for offroading aswell as the daily grind, thinking about welding the front diff up, when I knock the free wheeling hubs out will each wheel turn independently Unknw or will it cause problems with transfer box UnknwScratch one-s head

If, and I mean only IF you in

If, and I mean only IF you intend to use this modification off road only, then go right ahead. As long as you only use 2wd on anything slightly solid you wont have a problem. As the free wheeling hubs & 2/4wd lever will compleatly isolate the front drive chain when in 2wd (free weel) there will be no problem.
However remember that you will now not be able to use 4wd to, for instance, pull a heavy load out of a farm gate onto a raod.
Also welded front diffs have a tendancy to increas your vehicles turning circle, when in 4wd. Not good if your intending to do trialing. So you would also need to make up fidle breaks to bring you turning circle back to something resonible.
This mod would be good over soft extreamly ruff terain. But would start to put a lot of strain on the front of the transfure/free weeling hubs on flater/dryer ground.
Personally I'd say that unless your intending to be doing some sevear off roading, then this mod would be more troble than it's worth.
If you want to be able to get out of cross axles, and still use you jeep for all you would normally, I'd suggest fitting fidle beaks.
