Speedo Cluster swap

Forum:

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site so I apologise if this has been asked before.

I've recently got myself a 1997 Terios TR with manual transmition. It's a great little wagon but as it's the lower range model it has no tacho which is a bit annoying. I've found another of the same year at a wreckers, it's the TRS model so it has the Speedo cluster with an inbuilt tacho. I'm wondering if I'd be able to swap that with the cluster in my one? The only difference is the wrecked one is an automatic so I'd have to cover up the gear selector icons on the dash but that's no biggie. Also does anyone know if my terry would have a cable for the tacho or would I have to get one installed?

Thanks in advance!

Have done something similar on a YRV Turbo.

Can't comment on the direct replacement for the Terios. But when I swapped the speedo on my YRV Turbo for some Sirion F-Speed clocks it was a direct replacement. What you should have done is removed the clocks from your dash to see what the connectors are like before buying.
Also what does the mileage look like on your speedo at the moment? Any new speedo will have the original mileage off that vehicle. Also one thing that has caught me out, is that even though I bought a speedo with similar mileage was showing > 500 miles to the mileage I had done on my speedo. When I took my car into a different garage for an M.O.T they must have used a diag system to interrogate the actual mileage and my mileage is now showing completely wrong on my latest M.O.T cert. Mileage on mine is 105,000

Mileage on mine is 105,000 and the one at the wreckers Is closer to 130,000. Quite a difference. I've heard that you can wind the numbers all the way to 999,999 and back to zero and then simply set it to match your car's current mileage? Not sure how accurate that info is though.

Also any ideas on the tacho cable? Will I have to install one and run it back to the dash?
