Needing help!

Forum:

I got the car for a little while now, for it's category and class of vehicle I will rate it fair.
The thing is I have come up with a gearbox problem and one morning after starting up and engaging the gear I noticed that the shift was if I could describe it as hard ( the gearbox gave a jerk at each change. Then we noticed that the indicator on the cluster panel was showing other gears besides the one selected.
The thing is all gears do select and drive on including reverse, yet it certainly seems as if on D it is iether starting on 2 or 3 and not in 1, I have an inclined driveway and that is how it became obvious as I had to push my pedal harder to get momentum to get the vehicle up.
Any help on where I should start to fix the problem please.

Car? And this is an auto?

Unfortunately you don't give much detail in your post about what car you have. And can only conclude this is an auto box problem? Unfortunately if this is the case and it is an auto problem then these are a known issue with Daihatsu cars. If the auto box has not been care for and had regular oil and filter changes then this can happen. The issue is that the oil can break down and with this failure. Could be a sensor issue in the box, but your best try is for an oil change in the auto box a couple of times. Failing that check for the connection to the auto box ECU, or also known as the transmission control unit. But from the sounds of it you have an actual physical transmission fault which may mean a rebuild/ new auto box.
