Smoking Sporty

Forum:

OK I have a Sportrak that I have recently bought with receipts for extensive engine work which includes replacement engine, piston rings cambelt valve seals etc. all done about 10000 miles ago. I have just had the inlet manifold replaced due to a heavy oil leak. I hoped that this would cure the Genie that exits the exhaust at start up and so did the garage. This sadly has not proven the case. The garage say that it is likely to be valve seals but maybe a piston ring issue...groan.....This has supposedly been done, has anybody else experienced a similar problem and if so was did it turn out to be anything else? I am loathe to get this work done on a maybe as it will involve a costly head off...I am wondering if the fact that before I bought it it had been standing around for a long time and maybe once it has had a bit of use accumulated residues will have burnt off... but to be honest I think I am clutching at straws...

maybe sorted

Having had to have the waterpump replaced (along with all belts) I decided to get the oil changed at the same time and had the engine flushed with Wynns.. well the journey back from the garage yielded a lot less smoke at start up and my wife , who was following, reported that very little was now evident from the exhaust... so fingers crossed... new problem however has presented itself with a securing clip snapping on the oil cooler pipe from filter to engine block resutling in the loss of a fair amount of coolant, but looks simple enough to repair... just glad it is not the hose that is damaged as these seem impossible to source......
