Tyre Pressures

Forum:

Hi Daihatsu lovers,

I've just got my Fourtrak (2.8 TDX SE) can anyone tell me
what the Tyre pressures should be! (I havent got a manual
yet)
Also, wheres the switch for the front headlamp washers

Tyre Pressures

The tyre pressures may be mentioned on a sticker around one of the door pillars. Think they usually put it around the passenger door somewhere.

If can't find one then quite a few ppl on here seem to have their own personal preference for what tyre pressures to use as the Daihatsu ones seem rather low. For my Sportrak they say 23 at the front and 30 at the back. I have 25 at front and 28 back. I did have 30 at the back
but my Sporty would lose control pulling out of junctions in the wet weather then. Couple of near misses later I thought i'd try 28.

So best thing to do would be to find out what other Fourtrak users prefer and to use one of them. Or even try my pressures. Smile

I too had a very hairy moment

I too had a very hairy moment pulling away from a r/about in the wet once not long after I'd bought it, (Don't ya just LOVE live rear axles??) and I lowered the rears to 25 as well as the fronts. Much, much better, and improves the ride - recommended.

25???

Isn't 25 a bit too low? Then again as long as it has grip I doubt it matters. Who needs to use a "skid" car which they have on TV to slide all over the place. Just inflate a Sportraks tyres to 30, add a bit of water as you slide about more than torvil and dean.

Which is why i suggest if you are on certain roads in wet weather it may be safer to be in 4wd, as some are v slippery. The one junction in Worcester is so slippery when wet every car wheelspins trying to pull away, apart from large ones wheelspin and start to roll back, Shok and then manage to pull away. Lots of fun Biggrin

Tyre pressures & headlamp washers

first up, the headlamp washers draw from their own wash tank ( the forward one of the two on the left hand side of the car inside the engine space, the rearmost one supplies the windscreen). The wash is automatic, when you have your headlights switched on and you use the windscreen washer the headlamp washer works too. Switch the headlamps off and all you get is windscreen wash.

Tyre pressures: I'm running oversize tyres but unmodified suspension, and it does depend on conditions. With 255x75R15 AT tyres I find I need about 35 psi on the roads otherwise higher speed cornering is a bit roly poly. I personally prefer a harder ride and less give in the tyre. I have run all four on the road as low as 25 psi but I can't honestly say that the grip improved significantly with my tyres.
For soft mud I go lower ca 24-28psi and sand I go down to about 16 to 20 psi depending upon conditions.

For rock hopping I keep them at road pressure.
The low pressure for sand shouldn't be used on the road except at a trickle, you'll drive right out of your tyres or score them.

hope this helps

Tyre Pressures

Hi,

Have just checked the door post of my '89 FT and it gives 20psi front & rear unloaded; 20 front & 23 rear loaded. The tyres are 215/80 R15 100Q
