F78 offside cv boots

Forum:

Hi, can anyone confirm that removing the bottom balljoint is the way to separate the half shaft from inner hub so as to change the cv boots. As was posted on here some years ago.
Thanks

CV Boots

I did the nearside on my F78 a while back, and as you say, that is the easier side. When I was researching the subject I found posts suggesting the offside was no different, but that so far as I can see is not the case. Dropping the ball joint to create the space needed seems the way to go.
I found it a struggle to get enough tension on the metal fasteners, I guess there maybe a special tool for it? Some people use nylon zip fasteners, not sure how durable they are, some I've used in other applications suffer breakage from what looks like UV deterioration.

Good luck.

Undoing the balljoint is the way to do it. No need to pop the balljoint, just undo the four bolts that secure it. Easy after that.
