Squeaky Brakes

Forum:

Heyup fello 4x4ers. I have a Sportrak and since I had the brake pads replaced 4 moths ago the brakes have squealed when stopping. I took her in for new tyres 3 months back and told the tyre guy. He put some copper oil each side of the pads, both sides, and they were fine for a month but now they are sqealing again, I wonder if anybody eles has had this problem, and what did you do. It is well annoying.

Many thanks

Mine squeak

My brakes seem to squeek aswell. But not that loud as you can only hear it if you have the window open. The thing I do to just them up is a high speed stop on a long str8 road tends to shut them up for a couple of weeks. Though giving them a rubdown with wet 'n dry paper is meant to shut them up. Especially new ones.

Sportrak Squeaky Brakes

Last year I to had an annoying whistling squeak.
At that time I replaced the pads and the anti squeal shims, and also some of the pad guides, using copper grease in all the appropriate places.
Then about 2 months ago the noise returned whilst on my way to work. There was a strong pull to one side, and when I stopped there was almost smoke coming from the front brake pads, the copper grease was sizzling.
The AA came out and rectified a sticking caliper ie not sliding on its pins.
All was well for 4 weeks then it happened again. The diagnosis was that the piston had siezed in the brake caliper.
New calipers being about 125 pounds each, or 65 exchange I obtained a caliper repair kit Daihatsu part number 0447987603000 which cost 39.95 pounds which has all the rubbers to do both sides.
My local garage fitted this and replaced the brake fluid. Apparently the piston was well siezed into the caliper hence all the problems.
Regards

Scotto, When the pads were

Scotto,
When the pads were changed, were the spring metal clips reinstalled. They go at either end of the brake pads, and apply a bit of lateral tension to the pads, and stop them squeaking.

Heyup bundyrumandcoke. Any idea where I can get the spring metal clips you mentioned. I PREFFER BEECH COLOURED SILICONE!!

I had that problem B4 I chang

I had that problem B4 I changed the pads...became very apparent on long runs more than local work and drove me beserk on more than one occasion. But oil is a bit too thin to shut it up, so try some copper or silicon grease on both sides of the shim. And as said, make sure those clips are there.
