Bad Vibes

Forum:

My Firm has a N reg Fieldman IFS, and I have been asked by the Regular Driver to solve a noise problem. every so often, there is an awful noise/vibration coming from the drivetrain. it can happen at any time/speed. we have replaced the front pads, and checked the freewheels. it is in 2wd.

It gets used for both on & off road, usually towing a smallish trailer on agric. jobs.

HELP!!!!!

Re: Bad vibes

My first suspicion would be the propshaft UJs. Get underneath and give the UJs a good pull about and twist in all directions. Any movement will be apparent. Also look at the circlips which hold the caps in place, if they look shiny like the caps have been rotating underneath them then the joint is worn.

Apart from that, some more info would be needed such as: What sort of rev range does the noise occur in? Drive or coast? Worse under braking or steering? Which gears? etc.

Let us know how you get on.

I would certainly agree with

I would certainly agree with ajcaine's diagnosis here...check them UJ's ...first culprit in my book too.

If its a constant whine/noise it could be play in the rear diff..worn crown and pinion gear...but as suggested check the UJ's on the prop first.
