Fuel cut off solenoid

Forum:

Does anybody else notice the fuel shut off solenoid clicking in and out on start up ?. I noticed this while I had the bonnet up and started the engine, heard an intermittent clicking and traced it to the solenoid. Obviously a necessary thing to have on a diesel as you can't stop the engine unless fuel supply is cut off, unlike a petrol engine with spark ingnition. Could always put it in high gear and stall it against the brakes to shut it down but not sure it would be good for the clutch :-).

Previous owner experienced cold start up problems if the car had been left for a while, I've noticed it a few times. He changed all the glow plugs and the common connection to the plugs but to no avail.

Hi Paulbr,

You could fit a pull stop to your car, it is a lot simpler and will never break.
A Toyota Dyna and Daihatsu Delta 1978-1984 truck have pull stops only the coaster buses have the EDIC motor (Electronic Diesel Injection Control) like your car.

Good luck,
ToyotaDyna

Are you sure it's for the fue

Are you sure it's for the fuel? Is it on the driver side inner wing? I ask becouse the engine pre-heater glow plug relay lives there, and it clickes on and off several time after start up to help with cold morning lumpy deisle sindrom. This solanoid is very loud.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
