New lad :) - Sporty 94 M

Forum:

Hey guys! Just bought a Sporty, 94 on M. Seems well nice! Am enjoying it, and even nippier than my old rover 1.9 diesel I've been driving for far too long! Anyway, lots planned for her! Wink Have been a couple of things, firstly, bl**dy alarm! Small fix later and I can actually start her without the immobilser randomly deciding to kick in! Other small thing is that she pulls to the right sometimes when braking. When I picked her up I noticed that the dozy gits who owned it had been running the right drivers side hub in locked Sad Is that going to have trashed anything? I'm hoping not! but if someone can let us know that would be great.

Don't think there's anything else! I'm slowly working out that wiring appears to be a random decision on each car! haha, done a lot of sparky work so should be just about able to work out what's going on.... maybe!

Great site! well nice, have used it for refrence a few times already! Will update with pics as and when I do things too as it's wicked to see what people have done to their sportys and fours Smile

any suggestions about braking problem would be grand!

Cheers guys! (and girls!)

Hmmmmm

Hey guys, not sure if anyones reading this, but could do with advice!

Took the sporty down to local garage and they very very kindly chucked....I mean placed, her on the rolling road for me Smile Thankyou to the guys at Milchedever!

Anyway, turns out there's nothign wrong with the brakes Sad Which doesnt explain the random pulling to the right sometimes on braking. I did mention to the guys about the drivers side wheel hub being left in locked (not my fault!) they arnt 44 specialists but they said that they think that could be the problem.... The bad news is, I have no idea what's wrong with it, but the good, exciting news is that this weekend I don't have to take the front calipers apart Smile

Any suggestions on the hubs? or any suggestions of what it could be? Cheers guys!

If you unlock both hubs, you

If you unlock both hubs, you should be able to turn the front half-shaft on both sides (proving the hub is truly unlocked).

If it only pulls to the right while braking but it's not the brakes, you may find worn steering linkage, ball joints or shock absorber. Have the tracking set and ask them to look for anything loose.

The problem may also be in the rear, like worn leaf spring bushings or loose U-Bolts connecting the rear axle to the springs.

Thanks aldo. I double checked

Thanks aldo. I double checked the tyre pressures. One of the rear seemed to be quite out, have adjusted it now. I think it *Seems* to have sorted it out, will see though when I pop into work on friday. I've had it tracked, they didn't mention anything...

Well! lol, you might not of,

Well! lol, you might not of, but it turns out I was wrong anyway.

I bow to your experience man (seriously) lol, I'm pretty sure it's a calipar now, as it happens mainly when she's warm. Came up to a roundabout the other day and nearly did a 360 into it!, next time she goes funny im gonna have a feel for excessive heat on the front and see if maybe one of them is a bit sticky! Might get the wheels off in a bit and have a look too.

Brakes pulling

Ginger, it's definitely your calipers, they are a common problem on Fours and Sporty's. They get lots of crap in them, and then will not slide properly on the pin. You need to strip the calipers down and give them a really good clean out with a narrow round file, and when replacing them, slap plenty of copper slip grease on them. You may as well swap the pads while you are at it, as if it's pulling they will certainly show signs of uneven wear.
Good luck, keep on trucking.

Cheers snappo, your post was

Cheers snappo, your post was well helpfull actually, have been wondering if it it was a common thing! A job for a sunny day tho! nowhere dry to work Sad .. bring on the weekend Biggrin
