rear brakes 1990 sportrak

Forum:

just a quick query ,how hard is it to replace the rear brake shoes Unknw thanks.

Brakes.

Easy. Just make certain you unscrew the handbrake adjusters so the cable is very slack. If cable is tight then the drums wont come off. Remove the two screws in the face of the drum. You probably need to rubber-hammer the drums or use a puller to free them. Penetrating oil helps - 'pour' arround the centre drum/hub and leave overnight.
When new shoes are fitted re-tension the handbrake and adjust the shoes by ratcheting the handbrake lever - the shoes adjust on a cam via the handbrake.
NB. careful not to damage the rubber caps on the slave cylinders. Use a long strong screw driver to lever the old shoes out. Take note of the holes into which the springs hold the old shoes in place and refit in same position.
