Help! MORE gearbox problems...

Forum:

About a month ago I got the classic gearbox failure on my 1991 2.8TDX. The loose nut on the end of the output shaft was duly tightened back up and after fixing another minor problem with the transfer box all seemed well for about 500 miles or so...

... until this weekend when I lost 2nd gear *again* the symptoms are exactly the same, difficult to engage 2nd gear especially when changing down from 3rd. Sometimes it goes in if you double declutch. I guess the nut has worked itself loose already.

Maybe the thread is knackered on the nut, or worse still, the shaft itself. I guess I can buy a new nut from Daihatsu. Is there a fix for the shaft if the threads are damaged?

To be honest this is the last straw with my fourtrak... Its been off-road too much, and I mean sitting in a garage rather than mud plugging! Its already needed a recon gearbox, leaf springs, battery, exhaust, loads of welding and a new clutch, and thats only in about 20,000 miles of fairly light use. If someone stole it and i never saw it again I'd be only too happy Diablo
