Poor accelertion and no power up hill

Forum:

Has anyone any ideas what the problem could be - just started happening recently. My Sportrak feels quite juddery when accelerating and is very slow to reach over 50mph, although it seems to go ok when at a constant speed. Today it seemed to loose power when on roads with a slight incline and was terrible on steep hills, infact I had to drop it down to 2nd gear just to make it up the hill and the poor engine was working overtime. I would give your injectors a clean with a good addative cleaner before you get into the mecanical side, it only costs about £5 and just add to the petrol.

Stevetheplank could well be right, Sportraks do not like a dirty filter.
If you motor is fuel injected you will find it on the bulk head at the LHS of the distributor.

hi, i would also check your fuel filter isnt partially blocked restricting the fuel flow when the engine is trying to use more petrol ie speeding up and going uphill. if your model has the metal type mounted on the wheel arch on the left hand side as you veiw the car from the front under the bonnet (a small metal cylinder with a pipe going in one end and one comming out the other) then the cheapest replacement is a plastic inline one, which will only cost a couple of quid max, but will be a damn site cheaper than a mechanic if that is the problem,if it isnt that then youve only lost a couple of quid !!

i am always in shit, its just the depth that varies
