right then the fuel drain and charge warning lights have come on, and wont go off!

they came on a couple of days ago, then went off after couple of mins driving! now they come on and stay on!
I defo dont have a fuel drain, thats for certain, and the battery must be charging cos i drove the truck 20odd miles in the dark with main beam going!

i am going to make sure the alternator is doing everything is should and also test the voltage regulator!
but is there a fault or problem that anyone else has encountered that would explain this problem, or am i going to ahve to start at the igntion switch and trace the wiring problem back from there?

just realised from reading pa

just realised from reading past posts, that the fuel drain light, means i need to drain the water out the fuel filter!

This i will do as soon as i finished work!
perhaps its possible this has caused the charge light to come on also? bad earth or something?
perhaps not!

any ideas if i drain the fuel filter and both lights are still on?

Have you forded a creek or pu

Have you forded a creek or puddle lately. I have had this problem after crossing deep water. Alternator fills with water, all the lights come on. It usually clears itself after a short time.
Or it could be coincidental that your fuel filter needs to be drained, and your alternator brushes have given up the ghost at the same time.

David

ok bit of am update! doin

ok bit of am update!

doing my nut in a little bit this problem is! Its not the fuel filter! this is drained and light still on!
last night checked the charging system the battery reads 14.6volts there is a feed into the alternator and 14.6 volts coming out of it. then suddenly only 13 volts coming out the alternator, then 14.6 again!
hmmmm, got some expert advice this morning and apparently the three wires which feed the alternator with power to the rota coils and two negative feeds can corrode inside and show this exact problem! also as the fuel drain light is on the same circuit it will also light up!
so the proposed answer is to remove the plug to the alternator with the three wires, and strip back the loom a little and replace!
will update if this sorts the problem if anyone is interested and or has this problem in the future!

100% sure

I had this problem and it was the alternater that was faulty!! got new brushes and a diode no all working okay, a bloke in huddersfield did all this for 30 quid cant beat that!

hi mate! well yeh i think

hi mate!

well yeh i think you might be very right! i have ruled out everything but the alternator! all connections are good! so am taking the truck to someone that can test and give me the exact fault today!
hope it does only cost 30 quid, that would be pucker!
i love this truck but its costing a fortune!
