Sporty blower woes

Forum:

Hi All,

The blower control switch is dead on my 96 Sportrak and some bright spark has previously bypassed it with a rocker switch wired direct to the blower connector tabs thus giving full blast or off. I've found the resistor block and the small one has broken (replacments on the way from RS). The manual suggests also if the blower is faulty to replce the relay but I'm buggered if I can find it. It's not where the diagram in the service manual has it. Any help is much appreciated, with the colder months on the way I'd like to have more control over the heater!

Cheers,
Stone.

Blower fan

Ah yes, seen that already cheers Dave, that's what prompted me to find and check the resistors which should be here any time now. The botched switch is taking a feed from the battery (with a fuse fortunately) to a rocker switch mounted next to the original fan control. The proper blower connector is disconnected and the botch wires are connected in it's place by spade connector tabs shoved on the terminals. Has this arrangement bypassed a relay or does the fact that it works (on full balst only mind) confirm the relay is sound?
Also where is said relay??

Whilst we're on electricals, should the heater controls be illuminated when the headlamps are on?

Thanks in advance,
Jon.

Right, replaced the broken resistor removed the wires to the botched switch from the blower and re-attached the proper connector and....
nothing! dead as a Do-Do Sad
Does this now mean a dashboard off job to source the problem?
If anyone can offer advice I'd be really grateful, it's starting to piss me off now. I don't like it when things don't work as they should, and I'm one of those people who can't rest until it's fixed.

Cheers,
Stone.
