My 94 Fieldman started clonking a few days ago, it would stop when i put her in 4 wheel drive. I thought at first it was one of the prop shafts, but after checking them there seemed to be no play in either. After careful listening i isolated the noise to the front offside drive shaft, again there appeared to be no play in the shaft and the bearing was tight. I stripped down the hub as if to tighten up the bearing refitted all the circlips, spring etc and put it back together. The noise has now stopped and i do not know what i have done to cure it. I have not put it back into 4 wheel drive since just in case it starts again.

Any ideas from anybody as to what it could have been?
