sportrax hubunit

Unpleasant grinding noise on cold mornings only has been tracked down to a RH worn free wheeling hub unit. Any advice, comments etc. Where is best place to get a new one, how much can I expect to pay? Thanx for the email to remind me to visit again - came just at the right time! Lorna

free wheeling hubs

have you tried e-bay , type in daihatsu, there are currently 8 pages ,im sure i saw some the other day , if not , there are plenty of people breaking dinkys advertising in these pages
good luck !!

Inner bearings probably gone not hub.

Right before you go to the expence of getting a new / used hub unit. Have the bearings been checked? As i had this problem with mine, and there are two bearing per side on the front hubs.

I had similar sort of noise and a garage suggested the hub, but wanted £300 to sort it, so i said "no". When i jacked the front up there was a tiny bit of play with the wheel, nothing to think bearing, hardly any movement at all. But i stripped down the hub and as i pulled the hub off, all the inner bearings fell out. The noise was the metal cage that holds them together scraping the hub as it revolved, cost me £30 for the bearings and a tub of grease.

If you have oversized tyres, i found the inner bearing goes quicker.

Have you got manual or automatic hubs?? If the bearings are fine and the hubs have gone, i do have two manual hubs for sale. Either complete and still attached to drive shafts etc or separated.

***BUT i would say to check the bearings first, as i`d say they are the biggest cause. Probably the inner bearing.***
