1990 Sportrak EFi injector problem

Forum:

Hello to all as I am a new member Smile Just bought a Sportrak EFi for girlfriend, it is her second, loved the first one - but wore it out! Unfortunately it has stopped running. Ignition funtioning correctly. Fuel pump working. injectors bench tested and ok. Was running fine until borrowed by someone who ran it out of fuel, I had to tow it home. Have bled fuel system. when trying to start it the injectors are not opening. I strongly suspect foul play }:) as the person who borrowed it (without permission) wants to buy it as a non runner now, also stole some stuff from the glove box.
Think I have checked obvious stuff, fuses, relays connections to EFi box. I wondered about a crank/flywheel sensor being disconnected but can't locate one. I think I have found cam and manifold sensors these are connected ok. Ordered a CD manual but not arrived yet. Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved, Jo very upset Cray 2 and got no wheels! Sad Incidentally put a drop of fuel down plug holes a fired a couple of times. crank over with plugs out no sign of fuel going through at all.

workshop manual

Hi I am new also but if your after a manual it is downlodable from another site -'WARFS'
On this site you can download all 'pdf' manuals

Not sure if it helps you?

I had a breakdown with simila

I had a breakdown with similar symptoms - turned out to be one of the relays.

They have obviously nicked/replaced something with a duff item in order for you to sell it to them so they can sell it on at a fat profit.

relays

relays are clicking in, I will bench test them to be sure and double check terminals and wires (and the associated fuses)It must be something simple I'm sure it is malicious - no sign of intereference (still dusty) around EFi unit in cab etc. there is a disconnected wire spur that comes out of the loom with the cam sensor? and manifold sensor.

Tricky fiddle.

Its a possibility ........
1. I assume the engine turns on the starter.
2. Fuel/spark at the plugs.
Is there a chance they took off the distributor and refitted it so it fires on the exhaust stroke? Try cylinder number 1 at TDC on compression stroke and check if the distributor's cap terminal is aligned with rotor arm to HT cable cylinder 1, in the distributor cap.

turns over fine, sparks fine,

turns over fine, sparks fine, fuel pumping, no fuel past injectors (they are not opening) drop of fuel in cylinders and it fires for a rev or two. Will check dizzy anyhow though, many thanks

A few from the CD.

1.Coil
2.Distributor
3.Ignition wiring broken
4.Fusable Link by main battery.
5.Body ground cable
6.Inspect all wiring terminals and connections.[CD suggests trying if the malfunction occurs whilst vibrating the connector/wires.]
7. ECU fault - check connection [terminal 21] to where its grounded.
NB ... diagram shows a 'backup link' between ECU terminal 2 and main battery. Check if the backup link is broken.
NNB. check EFI fuse number 1 and number 2. If EFI fuse 1 broken then main relay will not operate if 'backup link' is broken.
8. Water temperature sensor.
9. Air intake sensor.
10.Main relay - check ground connection.
11.Kinked/restricted fuel line

SOLVED Thanks to everyone for their help!

The swine had clipped throught the wire between the 15A fuse and the injector relay. It was a clean cut looked like side cutter pliers used by the marks on the cable. It was my first suspicion that the injectors were not opening. Note for others as this could easily fail due to corrosion of fuse terminals etc. this does not show as a fault on the engine diognostic sytem. it initially ivaded detection because the cut ends must have just touched when continuity testing, wiggle your wires then recheck! A very quick and easy check to see if you have power to the injectors is to disconect one injector lead and check for voltage between cable connector and a good earth (ignition on engine not running) as the injectors are all normally live its a simple way to check the feed should read 12v minimum). Thanks to everyone who gave sugestions
