Fourtrak 2nd gear hard work and clutch near floor

Forum:

Hi
i have just acquired an m reg independent with a few probs Help

it is very awkward to go down into 2nd and even when changing up is very awkward and occasionaly jumps out upon releasing the clutch unless i'm holding it in

also the clutch is very near the flooor and after giving it some work tends to slip a bit when the turbo is in (2000rpm+)

any help or info would be gratefully received

Check clutch free play

..... but I bet that's going to be OK.

Second gear probs sound like the dreaded 'gearbox nut' problem (do a search).

Clutch slipping sounds like a worn out clutch letting go at max torque. If the clutch release bearing is not given any free play because the cable tension is incorrect, this will reduce the pressure on the clutch and cause slip, but this is so easy to fix, I guess it would have been done by the seller of the vehicle.

I suspect you have been sold a naff vehicle.

In haste ..... radiofrequency man

there's loads of play on the clutch its near the floor

to clarify
2nd gear is ok from 1st, but going from 3rd (to 2nd) requires a taste of 1st before it'll go in
also occasionaly coming out of 5th it sticks, if i let the clutch out again it'll move

Adjust the clutch, and you ma

Adjust the clutch, and you may fix both problems. In the engine bay, look for where the clutch cable comes through the firewall/bulkhead. Its identified by a C clip about an inch in diametre around the cable housing. Get a pair of pliers and revove the clip. Pull the outer cable further into the engine bay, then put the clip back on to the closest groove you can get it onto.
