How to do a Spring over Axle lift

Forum:

Is there a guide anywhere on how to do a SOA lift on a Fourtrak. Mine is a leaf spring J reg. I have been searching on the internet but can not find anything. A friend owns a metal works place and said he would help me do it but just need to find out how(ish). Thanks
Steve

im also looking into doing

im also looking into doing the same on my fourtrak.am going to fabricate new shackles to fit on leaf springs to raise height but wondering does this then change wear and tear on prop shaft and other moving parts also would longer shackles then give a bit of sideways movement and eventually give in under abuse.thanks.

I'd always sugest a body

I'd always sugest a body lift. This gives the extra hight in the wheel arches to alow bigger tyres (the only way to actually lift the diffs clear) without lifting the centre of gravity too much. You are only lifting the weight of you and the car body, nt the chassis, engine and gearbox.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

body lift

how easy is it to do a body lift cheers

For what i gather, for a body lift: where the body is bolted to the chasis do you pretty much unbolt it, put some 2" long tubing in there so it is sandwiched between the body and the chasis and then bolt back together??? If that is right do you know what Diameter the tubing should be etc?

Thanks

Steve

That's prity much it.

That's prity much it. Except there are some places where the body sits on the chassis. They need to be extended to. As for diamater, just big enough to go round the bolts. The bolts will need replacing with longer ones too. Once it's all bolted down weld the bottom of the tubing to the chassis.
