Hi Everybody,
I just bought my 1992 Sportrak ELXi on Monday, it's my first car. Everything was fine, I parked it up and have had to wait for my Ins before I can get tax. I moved the car yesterday and I have a loud clonking noise at the front. It appears that my nearside Locking Hub has locked on and won't unlock, this is transferring the clonking noise to the offside hub. I've tried reversing, but it's still locked. I would be very grateful for some constructive advice please on how I could unlock the hub?
Merry Christmas!
Dan

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
Thanks for the prompt reply.

Sorry, never played with
Sorry, never played with them. At a guess, take apart, clean, lubricat, and re-build. I'm afraid that's as much help as i can give, as I have only dismantled manuel hubs myself.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your help and suggestions on Saturday. However I will post the answer in case somebody else has the same problem - It was User error, I have to admit!!!
I bought a manual and it described "Ratcheting Phenomenon" this is where one of the hubs engages and the other doesn't. It can be cured by selecting 4H and driving forwards in a straight line, then stop, select neutral engage 2H and reverse, again in a straight line for at least three metres, this will disengage both hubs. You may then drive forwards without the ratcheting phenomenon.
I hope this helps somebody and prevents them the worries that I had on Friday/Saturday.
