slow ecceleration

Forum:

Anybody had the same problem of being gutless under 4000rpm, got a 1997 1.6 sportrak, trying injector cleaners at mo, but think i might need new injectors????
Has anybody experienced simular prob & managed to sort it ?????

Try the simple things first

Before getting new injectors, I personally would try all the more simple things first.

Check the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and leads etc.

I also have found from previous cars, that 16v engines tend to "pick up" more when at higher revs.

When I first got mine it wasn't that good acceleration wise, and it struggled up hills.

After giving it a thorough service, it was much better.

Then add a K&N filter and de-cat the exhaust and it has far more torque and power, bearing in mind its still a Sportrak and wasn't designed for fast acceleration.

slow ecceleration

Thanxs willives, Have put new plugs in and airfilter, have got new cambelt & fanbelt to put on with new fuel filter.
Been reading old threads about distributor, might advance it to see if it picks up better !

Seriously, get the K&N

Seriously, get the K&N R-1380 air filter and fit it, makes a lot of difference and the induction sucking / whistling sound as you accelerate is just HAWT! Smile

First off before doing any

First off before doing any mods is to make sure the engine is tip top.
1. Check everything associated with ignition system i.e. plugs, HT leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, ign coil output, ign timing etc.
2. Check the breathing next - air filter, condition of breather pipes (splits, blockages etc).
3. Check the valve clearances! - this is one people neglect as it's a bit of a pain, but it's critical for optimum performance.
4. Re-new the fuel filter if it's old then you could have the injectors ultrasonically cleaned and flow tested.
5. Might as well have fresh oils and change the coolant while you're at it.

Then you can start having fun changing bits and adding mods
(and watch your wallet get thinner by the day!) Lol

Poor Acceleration

Thanxs for advice guys, been working my way through the list, changed air filter & plugs, but dosn't make sense with her being really bad when cold, normaly the other way round that it gives them a bit of a boost.
