F20 parts

I have an F20 too, what parts are you looking for? You can still get most things for them but like you said, parts dealers usually look blank when you ask them for stuff. Its far better if you know the part numbers for what you need first. Let me know what you are looking for and I'll try to point you in the right direction.

F20 help

I know what you mean about eating up the points, do you change the condensor each time as well? I fitted a pertronix ignitor to mine along with one of their flame thrower coils and did away with the points and condensor all together. It has only done a few hundred miles since, but it does seem to run much better, especially at idle. It cost about £60 I think (ordered from the USA and paid in $$). It also should be unaffected by damp so better in the mud and water off road.

The prop joints can be replaced and I would recommend this over a second hand prop as it is likely to be just as badly worn as yours. I bought the last ones I used from a prop-shaft specialist in Bridgend for about £15-20 each, although he did have new prop-shafts on the shelf for later models. I did ask about having one made up and his suggestion was to use the sliding joint from a land rover shaft (cheap), cut to length, and the original flanges reamed to take a common (cheaper) UJ. Also the shafts are different for the 4 and 5 speed models, if yours is W reg it probably is the last of the 4 speeders with drums all round.

Just let me know if you want the ignitor details or contact details for the prop joints.

Where abouts in the country are you? I haven't seen another F20 or F50 on the road for a couple of years now.

Regards - Alastair.

hello Alastair yes as i change points and condenser at the same time i use it off road alot as it very good compeard to land rovers seams to go eny where how long did it take to get parts from u.s.a as i hope to go off road in feb i live in west sussex do you have the part number as found place in england that stocks them pics in gallery of my f20

F20 parts

I bought the ignitor and coil from Retro Rockets http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/ in the states. The ignitor part number is 1641 and the coil number is 40511. This coil is for the non-ballast resistor system. My ballast resistor was burning out so I got rid of it and ordered the coil to suit a non-ballasted system. Although I ordered from the states and paid in dollars (great exchange rate!!) the stuff was dispatched from their warehouse in England and arrived by first class post the next day.. It was dead easy to fit with the distributor off the engine, but if you do this you must make sure it goes back in correctly as it is easy to put it in 180 degrees out and the car will never start.

Good luck - Al.

Electronic conversion

Hi mate, I recently converted mine to electronic with a kit from simonbbc.com or similar who is based in the UK, Google it and you should find it. (simonbbc)

The engine is a Toyota 12R

The engine is a Toyota 12R engine of 1587cc, this was used in the early Toyota Hi-lux 4X4, and in the Toyota Hi-Ace van, it is a sturdy and reliable engine producing 66BHP and 110N/M of torque.

Do not confuse this engine with the various 1588cc engines used in various Toyota cars, this is an entirely different engine, and was used in the Corolla and various sports models within the Toyota range.

Intermotor supply all electrical components, through most car shops, although they will have to be ordered, and the points settings are 0.016" or 0.4mm.
Spark plug gaps are 0.016" or o.4mm.
Tappets rarely need adjusting, and the engine timing is 5 degrees before top dead, marks are on the front pulley, and an indicator is attached to the engine block.
