Rocky Prop Shaft anyone got a spare ? ....

Forum:

hi all, we have an H reg 2.8 TDX diesel Fourtrack, the Prop Shaft rear end is all wobbly and making a terrible noise, in fact it isnt being used it's that bad.

So how to fix it, i can get our one reconditioned for £250 !!!!, I could get the bits from the internet, but surely the postage would be horrendous, plus i shall have to put all the bits together and of course there wouldnt be any come back if it went wrong !.

I have also found out that there are no local Breakers with that particular model in stock.

So unless anyone has a spare anywhere and we want to keep it on the road, it looks as if £250 will have to spent.

I had a quick look underneath myself and I must be correct in thinking, that 4 nut and bolts to undo and it's off, is it really as easy as that?, and i suppose a plastic back over the rear of the gearbox would be best when it's OFF.

Prop shaft help

I don't know whereabouts in the country you are, but these guys had them on the shelf last time I was there and I think they cost about half what you were quoted:

Driveshaft Services Ltd
Plot 1A
Village Farm Industrial Estate

Bridgend
Tel: 01656 741999

I bought two UJs from them and they were very helpful - and very local to me !!

Hope it helps - Alastair.

thanks for that "ajcaine", i

thanks for that "ajcaine", i live in Flitwick, bedfordshire, my daughter has just got home from work and it seems she has located one at a breakers in Cambridge (not that far from us) for £80 including postage !, so maybe we might be able to pick it up ourselves on saturday (if they are "open").

I am a pretty keen DIYer, but i just clambered underneath our Rocky equipped with a couple of 14mm spanners, thinking i could "easily" take it off, but it looks to me (I am 60, LOL) as if a Lift or Pit is mandatory for this apparently straight forward job, it seems as though getting your whole body underneath it standing upright is the only dammed way to get the pesky bolts undone.
