2.8TD Fourtrak 4x4 Question Help Needed.

Forum:

I test drove a fourtrak today and when tested the brakes the truck was in 2wheel high i banged on the brakes (as in a sharp emergency stop!) and as it stopped there was a spinning sound coming from the front, sounded like diffs or something like a grinding sound and the 4x4 light on the dash lit up and then went out about 1-2secs after the truck stopped fully and also the spinning sound stopped when the light went out.

Anyone got any ideas please i need to know if there is something wrong with the truck.

Thanks

That sounds nasty

Just guessing here, but I think you have a 'trak with the vacuum servo transfer box.

The detent springs on the vacuum servo variety are purposefully made lighter that the manual transfer (according to the Daihatsu manual). The remaining detent action comes from the application of vacuum to the correct side of the 2wd/4wd actuator diaphragm.

I'm guessing that when you jumped onto the brakes the whole lot of the gearbox mechanism decided to slide into the 4wd position and temporarily spun up the front propshaft.

If this is the case, it certainly shouldn't do that !

If you were thinking of buying this WALK AWAY !
