Vaccum Pump

Forum:

Does the Vaccum pump pump oil or air?

Im assuming it pumps air from what i have read in other posts and by its name but mine is full of oil. Should it be? Is that just to keep it lubricated? Also where do i top it back up with oil.

Excuse my stupidity.

Thanks

Steve

think there may be oil in it

think there may be oil in it for lubrication but if you have a lot of oil in your engine it may have crossed back into it. i have a focus with an intercooler and when i put too much oil in it i found engine oil in the intercooler hoses..

have a look in the maintenance manual about dismantling, there should be some kind of oil/breather pipe in it if you can top it up

I'm asuming you mean the vaccum pump on the back of the aultinator?
If so, it is a vacum pump. It producess a vacum to opperat the assistance on the breaking system. There is an oil feed to & from it, via two galary pipes conected to the engine block. In all there should be three pipes coming out of the pump, two full of oil (from the engine) and one going to the break master sylinder. you don't need to put oil into it as it gets its own from the engine.
