New rubber

Forum:

Can someone advise on which tyre is best, looking at fitting some new rubber that’s more aggressive that the All Terrains now fitted, (and look better too!) thinking of Colway Mud Terrain or Greenway Macho’s are they still ok on road, as that’s still the majority of use, but don’t want to get stuck off road, (to fit 98 Fourtrak)

colway MTs

I have just bought some Colway mud tyres for my sportrak which is going to be used predominantly off road, but needs tyres to get to and from sites. The thing with most MT tyres is that they are designed for a perecentage of on road and a percentage off road, these I have bought are 20% road and 80% off road, very agressive tread pattern. If you are in the UK, I have a number for a chap who is excellent priced, (mine were £183.00 for all four delivered next day!!)

Thanks for the reply, I

Thanks for the reply, I should fit some new A/T’s as will not be going off road too much, (but have been stuck in the mud on the road verge once with A/T’s and that’s embarrassing), and M/T’s would look so much better! And I won’t be doing too many miles anyway, as it’s not my main car, I will have to go and have a look at some first, (yes I’m in the UK, near Leicester)

Thanks for the words of advice!
My only concerns with fitting the M/T’s are how badly do they perform on road, I know they will be a bit noisy and will not grip/handle as well as the A/T’s but just how bad on road will they be? Cannot afford to be driving something that slides all over the road!! was there a big difference on road?

i dont drive that fast on the road but my M/t colways handle fine although as i said a bit noisy.

New Kumho's fitted

Well after much deliberating, well head scratching, looking thinking searching etc etc, I have just had a new set of Kumho Venture M/T fitted and what can I say… Brilliant, they handle ok on the road (but obviously not ideal for rapid progress!) and in the Snow they just made my old A/T look silly. And they don’t seem to be too noisy so that’s a bonus too. So thanks for all your input, you helped with the right decision.

tyres

I have just fitted a set of 215/75/15 colway MT remoulds to my 1988 F80 and it has transformed the truck . I now go places in 2wd where i used to struggle in 4wd a bit noisy on the road but so what. I got mine from Tanvic tyres in Grantham for £160 for all four fitted and balanced.

i run 225 75 15s all round

i run 225 75 15s all round backs are an aggressive pattern but fronts are road going.grips well and steers well.when offroad tho the fronts let me down.need to get two extra wheels and tyres to swap over when playing in mud.

BFG Mud Terrain

Hi I run 31.10x15 BFG Mud Terrains. They are the best tyres I have found, they are very good on road and are not to noisy and are very good off road, dont get stuck often. I had a set of re-mould mud tyres on truck before, never again! They were very out of balance and made the steering shake (they could not balance them in the end). With the BFG tyres I have no balance weights on my wheels and there is no wobble or pull. I know re-moulds are cheaper but in the end you get what you pay for?
