Hijet Tax Band

Forum:

We have a HiJet MPV, 1298cc, Reg 51. All was OK until the change in law on Tax Bands.
We are now charged £170 for the year which is Band G. This comes under Light Goods Vehicle.
But as it is a family car is this right.
I have asked around and some are only paying £110 per year.
Do others have this vehicle and what are you paying?

Hijet Tax Band

I have wondered about this too, mine is classed as LGV.

Response to HiJet Tax Band Query

I bought a 1.3 EFI 2001 Hi-Jet in Septemeber 2006 and didn't find out about this expensive tax until it was too late. I phoned the tax people and they said that there were some of these vans that were classed as LGV when they were manufactured. Unfortunately, the class cannot be changed once its set by the manufacturer. I think that its probably an administrative error that occurred back then.

On the other hand, if it was intentional, it might be that these LGV's gearing is set a bit on the low side, so that the van has a little more power for carrying loads and therefore slightly higher emissions. I am just grasping at straws here.

Obviously, if anyone else out there knows about a way of changing the class, it would be very much appreciated.

i read of someone getting an inspection done by the DVLA and then got the money taken off. Later they were summoned to court for tax evasion so i don't think they even know what they are doing.
