Forum:
Hi guys
I have a 1998 fourtrak TDX with 106k on the clock. I posted a thread last year april time, had a problem with oil leaking onto rear brake shoes and excessive play on the halfshafts.I got some good advice from forum members, pointing to rear wheel bearings and oil seals. Anyhow I deceided to let a local 4x4 specialist sort it out, the steering idler arm and front brake discs needed sorting and they gave me a decent deal. They replaced the inner halfshaft bearings, outer wheel bearings and oil seals.Everything was o.k till august when I noticed diff oil running down the offside wheel, the truck went back to garage and oilseal was replaced ( told that outer bearing had a sharp surface and had damaged the oil seal!) Jan 2007 noticed diff oil running down nearside wheel.Truck back in garage at the moment, today they rang me up saying that there is backlash in the diff and the only long term solution to stop the oil leaks recurring is to fit a new diff, are they trying to pull the wool or is it right. I have noticed a clunk from the rear end when going round corners, thought it was the tool box in the back.Advice would be much appreciated.
Regards
Al
