Not sure whether this would be general discussion but here goes. I have a 91 sportrak and its leaking around the oil sump. Now i know the sportrak has no oil sump gasket so i have to use sealant instead which i have. I just need to know if there is anyway of taking off the oil sump without moving or taking apart the engine at all. I have looked underneath and t looks as though the diff and front axel might be in the way if i was to take it off from underneath. Has anyone done this before? HELP!
Cheers, James
you should be ok to be
you should be ok to be honest as long as you can get into each bolt holding it on. the sump is usually flush with the bottom of the engine so once the bolts are out, as long as you have clearance to slide it out somewhere youll be ok.
i would recommend this as you may have all sorts of shite in there you would want out. if it turns out you cant fully remove the sump but get an inch or so clearance, just pull it off, get a rag on there and give the touching edges of the sump and the engine a clean with clean oil. fully remove the old gasket and go round the edges of the sump and engine with your fingers to make sure you have it all.
insert the new gasket by touch and doublecheck before you reinstall the sump (measure twice, cut once). tighten to 6.9-11.9 newtons as per the user manual, working on each bolt in sequence until they are all torqued. you should be fine then!
(make sure you dont have any oil in the sump before you remove it as when it clouts you on the head it hurts)
