FREEWHEELING HUBS

Forum:

HI I HAVE A 93 SPORTRAK ELXI I PUT MY CAR IN FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW FREEWHEELING HUB AS THE CIRCLIP AND SPRING HAD BROKEN AWAY FROM THE HUB THE CAR WAS PUT BACK TOGETHER MINUS CLIP&SPRING I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AS LONG AS I DO NOT USE 4WHEEL DRIVE ANY ADVICE ON IFF IT IS SAFE THANKS

The crclip holds the halfshaf

The crclip holds the halfshaft in the right place. You need it in place to prevent damage to the c.v. joint when in 4 wheel drive. But yes in 2 wheel drive, not a problem.
As for the spring, are they sure it's actually brocken? They have a tendency to slide out of the hole they fit into on the peice off hub that the 4/2 wheel drive switch is on. This happens if the hub is dismanteled while the 4 wheel drive is engaged.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
