My Sportrak is making a strange "klunk" noise of full lock

Forum:

I have just bought a sportrak and have noticed that their seems to be strabge noise when the car is on steering on full lock or coming off the kerb? any ideas what ths might be?

its your sway bar bushes

hello where your sway bar mounts onto the independent front suspension there should be a rubber bush ontop and below of the sway bar, you will probably find one of those is missing mine was doing the same, after much searching i managed to find a full set of polly bushes on one of the ebay shops for £20, milner offroad have a supension kit for £9 but im not sure if thats the same kit anyway hope that helps ozman

Does anyone know interesting to go offroading in suffolk? the flat lands seem very crapy so far!

Noise

Hi,
Before you spend any money out get under truck and your see a steering lock stop which hits the wheel put some grease on both sides it cured my noise. It happens when its on full lock especially when going up or down a bump.

steering clunk

Hi

I think its a Sporty trait as I've had one for oVer 10 years and it has always done that and a friends does it as well. We have serched for the problem, spraying silicone on all the roll bar joints etc but it sll re-occurs and 10 years of MOT's should have shown up a fault.

I think the suggestion of Polybushes may be the answer but I have put up with it and tend to ignore it. But do check for obvous signs of missing bushes and grease all the joints on the steering and suspension as a matter of course and for your own peace of mind. The steering stop theory I will try as it's about the only bit I haven't done
