BERTONE FREECLIMBER.

Forum:

Hi

I've just been looking at Ditripieces Normandie who are a large Motor Factor in France and they have a picture of the above which looks like a Sportrak with twin round headlamps, take a look on their web site under Bertone.

Has anyone come across one of these?

OLDMINIMAN

More Information is that they produced a Freeclimber 1 based on Daihatsu with a BMW Turbo Diesel engine looking more like a small Fourtrak then between 1992 and 1993 they produced the Freeclimber 2 using Daihatsu Mechanics, which was basically the Sportrak of the day, with Bertone additions eg the twin lights, grill and a 1596cc BMW petrol engine. Only 2860 units were made. The result looks quite nice with the twin headlamps but is inmistakingly a Sportrak.

As you can see on the car, I'm from Belgium Smile

Bertone Freeclimber II

QUOTE " Italian company Bertone built a variation powered by the BMW M40 engine, with 100 hp (74 kW), called the Bertone Freeclimber II."

Other differences I know:

(As I'am from Belgium I use decimal insted of imperial units)

- Other Rearaxle with LSD (Limited Sper Differential)
- Track = 1478mm , is 143mm more than Sportrak/Feroza
- Total width 1740mm
- OZ - wheels
- Springleafs 70mm width , at Sportrak/Feroza 60mm
- BMW Engine 1600 CC
- 100PK @5800T/min.
- 128 Nm @2750T/min , Sportrak/Feroza 128Nm @4800T/min.
- According the manual he can go thro 600mm water, not that I have done this yet.

Bertone

I have one of these (the Freeclimber II, having bought one in Italy and driven it back to Spain where I live. Odd pieces are Bertones own ( eg the sun visors - why I dont know) and the inside is more luxurious than the Sportrak. They come with Oz Alloy wheels as standard. I actually have a subsiduary question regarding the bumper on my car, but it would need me to put up a photo to do so and I cant see how to do that. Tony O
