Leaf Springs

Leaf springs are the great big springs that hold your car up. There are two types of leaf spring, there are single leaf springs and multi leaf springs (sometimes described as three plus one). The multi leaf springs have three leafs and a support, this means that if one snaps then the other two leafs will hold. If the single leaf spring snaps then the back end of your car goes down to the floor nearly. Most Sportraks have multi leaf springs on, but a few have the single leaf ones.

The multi leaf springs make the car sit a bit higher off the ground and the ride is better. You have to then give it two to three weeks so your multi leaf springs have time to settle and if the back of the car is still higher than the front then the front suspension is a torsion bar and can be adjusted to raise the front up again, making the car level. If you swap your single leaf springs for multi leaf springs then remember to change them both or else your car will lean to one side. Notice that the gap between the small hole and the middle of the clamp is 54cm. Notice that the helper on the multi leaf spring is longer than the helper on the single leaf spring.
