Rear shocks don't do the job

Forum:

Hi there,
as a fairly recent Daihatsu owner (probably the best decision i've made in a long time...)I've only come up against one problem so far i can't solve myself. The previous owner must have decided to change the rear shocks on my J-reg for possibly the hardest ones available in the world (even a Landy was softer...).Switch and wiring for the adjustment ones are still in place but i can't find any new/2nd hand ones to bolt on.Has anybody got a pair flying around somewhere or knows of some?

Shocks

The adjustable shocks are difficult to get hold of and once they go most replace them with gas filled no adjustibles. You may still get the Adjusterbles from Daihatsu but the cost would be huge. In your case I would think some one has replaced them with heavy duty shocks, maybe for towing, maybe with over spring assisters to maintain a hard ride. I would tend to replace these with some gas shocks from Milners. They are heavy duty but are comfortable and efficient. I know what you mean about Landy shocks having owned a 110 Series 3 for years. Alternatively the adjustibles may be obtainable through a scrappy but with no guarantee of life expectancy or working. Besides the adjustables were not that great in the first place. I suspect the front's may still be on the adjustibles like mine is. I replaced mine with those from Milners along with a main spring. That was some 5 years ago and they are still superb. The early Sportraks had 5 leaf rear springs whilst my 1996 Anjou has 3 leaf springs. This makes for a less firm ride but is not so good when towing.

Welcome to Daihatsu, I have proudly owned a Sporty since 1994, it is without doubt the most economic car I have ever owned, cost me £7000 back then and if I've spent £500 on repairs you'd be pushing it. It has been and remains the most reliable car I have ever owned and now with 105000+ on the clock is all set to go round again. I have exported it to France with me and the Family with no problems, don't believe the horror stories and I aquired a 1996 Anjou Sportrak last year expceting my old 1991 Model to be used eventually for spares. My opinion now is that the 1991 version with out live the newer one by years.
