ok this is getting annoying now. ive replaced the servo and master cylinder and im still getting the same problem - when the engines running the pedal drops.
so i figured that it must be a problem with the air from the manifold to the servo - and i turned the pipe the other way round (the one between the engine and the servo) and the pedal stays hard, however i now have no brakes.
i am yet to bleed but im sure it would just be spongy now rather than nothing at all..
two questions - should the pipe from the engine be sucking air out of the servo - because it is - and when the hose is sucking from the servo to the engine (allegedly the right way round according to the hose) the engine revs are all over the place and this is when my pedal gives nothing but air.
as soon as i turned the hose about the revs settled at a lovely 850, and the pedal went hard. im going to bleed the system but i would have thought i would have at least SOME braking power before i bleed.
just worried me thats all.
brakes
Desolateplains
I had the same prob and found that after bleeding it was ok
bled brakes the old way
"left the top off the brake resivor and weighted the pedal down over night " works fine now had air in the system
hope you have same success

so the way roundi have the hose now - the 'engine' arrow pointing away from the engine - is correct?
i just dont get why someone would do that like. and now im £50 out of pocket for a master cylinder and servo i never needed.
does anyone need one?

BRAKES
Hi Paul
The Vacuum pipe from the manifold to the servo sucks. With the pipe removed the engine revs will be all over the place due to in effect an induction leak.
The hose should, I would have thought, have been empty ie clear and therefore I can see no way that revesing it would make any difference. Check the hose for splits that by revesing it are opened up and causing the induction leak, but, this is reeally clutching at straws.
Looking at the state of your old servo I am certain that fluid was definitely leaking out of the Master Cylinder as the paint had peeled off and corrosion was quite severe.
When you replaced the master cylinder and the servo you would have allowed considerable air into the system and you really should have bled right through before testing. I cannot answer the question why reversing the pipe makes any difference as it is just a piece of pipe unless there is a one way valve within it which will be the only reason and I have never heard of one on these pipes. As far as I can see none of mine have arrows on
SO: CHECK THAT PIPE IS NOT SPLIT AND IS CLEAR THEN RE-ATTACH IT SECURELY TO BOTh THE INLET MANIFOLD AND THE SERVO. THEN BLEED THE SYSTEM COMPLETELY AS THE AIR WILL NOW BE AT THE START OF THE SYSTEM AND WILL HAVE MOVED ABOUT WITH YOUR APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES.
I know it is annoying but brakes can be a real pain to purge of air and I must admit to using an easi-bleed rather than a non return valve as I find those pretty touch and go. The pressure on the easi bleed is only 20 pound psi from your spare wheel and is very thorough and quick. I have tried many ways including auto bleed valves and none match the Easibleed method. Don't give up mate you will get there.

inside the hose there is a non-return valve, i find if i were to blow down the hose air only comes out if i do it in one direction.
it seems i have cracked it, ill bleed the lot tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed!!!

Bleeding.
Check the condition of the bleed nipples .... remove and examine. New nipples are standard size and cost pence from a motor shop. If in doubt change them all!
Bleed the longest run first and finish at the shortest.
well, i bled the brakes
well, i bled the brakes yesterday and took it for a spin. there is some braking power now, however its a spongy as a bastard.
so at least the master cylinder is working!! im gonna either get a power bleeder or get a garage to bleed it for me, just so i know i can get the air out of the pipes.
other than that its ready for its test next weekend.
i might have another go at bleeding them myself but i have put about a litre of fluid through the system and its still (really) spongy.
anyway had fun yesterday just taking it for a drive, the stereo kept tripping out so i stopped and realised the negative lead had come off the battery! oops.
