89 plate sportrak engine possiblitys

Forum:

Hi im new to the site ive just bought a f plate sportrak, with a dead engine, Im just wondering if i can use a injection engine with a carb as its hard to find a carb engine, If not what other petrol engines could i fit with out to much agro, eg the 2.0litre out of the early fourtrak?

The Carbed engine and the

The Carbed engine and the EFI engine are mechanically the same, its just the inlet manifolds that differ. So if you get an EFI engine, you can strip the EFI off and fit your carb to it. Ive loads of bits here including a cylinder head with a carb on it (unknown if working tho). But as i said they are identical to each other!!

cheers mate for the info, i had been offered a 2 litre out of the early fourtrak and thought if the injection engines are different i would give it a power increase by fitting the 2litre to make it more saleable when its done

I belive you would have to

I belive you would have to change the gearbox as well, in order to put the 4trak engin in. This is what I have been told though, and not from personal experience.
Could you not put an EFi engine in, and just wire the harness in too? Make for a (slightly) more powerful / fule efficient car. The early carb modles were EFi's which had a carb fitted on entering the UK. Don't ask me why. One of Daihatsu's more odd decisions...

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
