Rad weld

Forum:

Sorry I'm sure this one has come up before, but I'm new to the forum. My Four trak has sprung a small leak in her rad, has anyone tried rad weld? is it worth a try?, or should I take her in for a well deserved service and new rad? Many thanks....

Rad weld

you can try radweld but depends where the leak is

as for a new rad ouch! about £150. plus vat from milner you could try and get it re cored i had mine done last year from an old petrol model into my derv one seems to work ok

rad weld

Looking at where the water mark is comming from, the leak seems to be from high up (nothing major 1-2 ltrs a night)(or is that major!!), would radweld be ok for this? also what do you mean by re cored. Sorry for sounding blank, but i've had my 4 track for 3 yrs and nothing has gone wrong with it except for now......

rad weld

i would call that a wee bit major considering that its not under pressure when cold
recoring is having the sides top and bottom of the rad removed and a new inner bit(the core) placed in then resealed and pressure tested

rad problem

Many thanks for the help, I will have to book her in to get this sorted, I'm carrying around a 25 ltr water container at the moment (just in case)...Great site, will call in again...

Radweld

Radweld and other similar products are a waste of money.
They only stop minute leaks if that and are only a temporary fix that can go again any time soon.
Best to get the rad fully reconditioned, try these guys out, they will recon or supply new which ever the cheaper option.

Also try www.Buypartsby for a new one.

RAD LEAK

That is a huge loss and RADWELD won't permanantly cure a small leak, if at all. BARSLEAKS was better but would still not cure that type of loss.

Try Arron Radiators of London. They are on ebay under the name of :aaronradiator. They did one for my Sportrak new for £108 and it was excellent. They don't list the 4track but I'm certain they would match it if you gave them a call. They are cheaper than Milner, not knocking Milner as they are excellent, but these are a good firm and worth a call.

Either that or again risk a replacement out of one being scrapped on ebay.

Radiator

I have a Fourtrak 2.8 '93 and have had the radiator re-cored locally twice in ten years. The latest cost (2/6/05)was £93.94 inc vat and the radiator is as good as new. This is not a swop but a repair but it only takes a couple of days(so the vehicle is off the road) but it is well worth it.
I live near Wakefield West Yorkshire, the chap who re cores the radiators is called John Harrop (great guy), Tel 01924 383155 Wakefield Radiator Services.
