Hi all.
had another engine fitted in my fourtrack 2.8td. got it back on tue running fine.
wednesday would not start, called the man out who fitted it, he checked for fuel,ok. then squirted some easy start in in off if goes. he said its a electrical fault and does one,
thurs day wont start, phoned a garage who said it sounds like low compression. motor is back with the place who changed the engine who is still saying electrical and we did not pricefor this.
would it start and run like a good one when warm if it is compression please.
glow plugs are fine with power getting to them.
Glow plugs need to be on for about 12 seconds
.... could be the fabled 'one glow plug burnt out problem'.
This affects the current sensor and messes up the glow plug timing unit, which only gives a couple of seconds of power. This is insufficient to heat the plugs, so the beast is very reluctant to start from cold.
Do a search for 'glow plugs' and 'heater plugs' for more info.
OK, it might be that the compression is knackered, but it might be worth checking that it isn't this problem-ette before doing serious dismantling.
when i tested the glow plugs
when i tested the glow plugs they all get bright red, could any of them still be duf.
a wire from the battery live to the top of any of the plugs start it straight up. does this rule out a bad earth.
Hi All. set of
Hi All.
set of new plugs in today , no change.
plugs fine, control unit duff.
If the engine starts when you use a wire to jump from the battery directly to the glow plugs, that means that they are working fine.
Unfortunately the control box or the relay is up the creek.
If the control box is ok, it will drive the relay which can be heard clunking away as you start up, on the right hand inner wing near the battery.
If the relay is OK, then you will need to start tracing the wiring to find the fault. The only way that you can do that is with a circuit diagram which I unfortunately don't have to hand.
hi. thanks for that,
hi.
thanks for that, been and got it backfrom him as he was saying meega bucks to fix.
from cold it will start with a thick wire from the battery live to the top of one of the heater plugs.
it does sound like a glow plug problem , but i checked them and they all glow bright red.
the heater light is not staying on longer than3/4 seconds.
what do i look for please if its not plugs.
thanks
