Oil Sump Glued on

Forum:

Can anyone suggest a way of freeing the sump from my Daihatsu fourtrack?(1992). Even with all the nuts undone, I can't remove it. It seems to be glued on. It's the original one and I was told that a gasket was used when manufactured not sealant.

gasket

i removed the original sump of my old f75 she was a 89 fourtrak and as you once nuts were gone it didnt want to budge but i just kept tapping around sump and eventually a corner dropped and i was able to lever it down the gasket was the problem it had been put on with instant gasket as well so it came of in bits most of which stayed on the upper part of the sump making it a pain to clean of but youve probably tried tapping it not sure maybe a little heat just to melt any adhesive or instant gasket is about all i can suggest hope u get it sorted bill

Glued on sump

Thanks for your reply. I'll just have to keeping knocking away at it as you suggest and perhaps apply some heat as well. Someone suggested that if the engine came out, I could get more leverage on a crowbar for instance. it sounds like the last resort.

Naah, you wont need to go to

Naah, you wont need to go to that resort. Do as suggested. Even without sealant, the cork gaskets can get a very good hold. Just tap the corners. If you are careful when prising, you may be able to reuse the gasket, this time with some sealant. I dont know about in the UK, but here in Oz, genuine gaskets are about the most expensive part of any work. I generally reuse, or make my own.
