Loud Engine Rattle

Forum:

I have just replaced the cam belt on my F75 and, on restarting the car, it ran sweetly until it reached normal temperature. It then suddenly started to run very rough and developed a VERY loud engine knock and stalled from idle. The knock now continues from a cold start. It appears to be coming from the injection pump. Help please.

Given the work that has been

Given the work that has been done, I'd say the pump has slipped on its mount knocking the timing out. It may just have been coincidental that it started happening around when it warmed up fully so I'd start by checking mounting bolts have not worked loose and re-timing as necc.

Loud Engine Rattle/Knock

i have checked the injection pump and retimed, but still have the knock. The manual specifies the removal of glow plug 1, but not why it is necessary. Is there a foolproof way to ensure that cylinder 1 is at TDC and am I correct in thinking that it takes 16 revolutions to return the belt timing marks to the start position - i,e that each complete cylinder cycle takes 4 revs of the crankshaft. So could my problem be that I am not quite on the compression stroke?
