Hijet intermittent starting problem

Forum:

Help Hi, I have an intermittent starting problem with my petrol Hijet 1000 EFI. Most of the time the van starts first time, but occasionally when you turn the key all the electrics fail, after a couple of miniutes the interior light comes on, followed by the radio a miniute later and then the ignition lights on the dashboard, if you try to turn the starter motor the electrics disappear again. After an hour or so the van will start, first time and then be fine for about a week. Whilst the electrics are down I have tried jump starting it with no luck. I suspected the starter motor (which it still might be!) with the lead off but the electrics still failed when the key is turned. Your thoughts are most welcome. Many thanks, Terry.

hIJET ELECTRIC PROBLEMS

I AM SHOOTING IN THE DARK BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE EITHER A SOLENOID PROBLEM OR THE IGNITION SWITCH ITSELF FAILING. cHECK ALSO ALL THE FUSE CONNECTIONS AND THE EARTH CONNECTION WHICH MAY BE CONNECTED TO A CORRODED PIECE OF THE BODY. yOU CERTAINLY HAVE A DRAIN SOMEWHERE AND IT COULD WELL BE A BAD EARTH CONNECTION.

I HAVE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON A MINI AD THAT WAS COPPER CORROSION ON THE FUSES CAUSING EXCESSIVE RESISTANCE.

Thanks for swift response, Im sorry I've taken so long to reply.
I have double checked the battery terminals & the earth connection at the battery to the body, I will check the connection from the body to engine. The fuses all look fine but I agree with you it does sound like a bad connection somewhere, or another thought I had was it may be a dodgy sensor somewhere?.
Many thanks again. Terry.

OLDMINIMAN is right check

OLDMINIMAN is right check the fuse link,
mainly the fuse link coming of the battery it should be with the positive cable conecting to ur battery that is also a comon problem but very cheap to fix.....
