hi all well im new to the fourtrax as ive all ways had suzuki sj's,well i got a g reg 2.0 petrol for 500 and after only 40 miles on the motor way the reves shot up and there was a nosie from the gear box as the cluch engaged byitself???after pullin over i found i had no cluch as it was engaged fully????but then on the way home(on tow)it suddenly dissengaged but yet the gear lever was in neutral????so now its as if the cluch is slippin and its in gear but its in neutrall???so any one know whats wrong with it,is it cluch or gear box thats gone ,also before this the thrust bearins were very nosie,cheers for any help phil

From your description it sounds like either your selectors have wondered out of pesition, or the usual (around 50,000 miles) main shaft nut problem has reared it's ugly head. If the selectors have brocken lose you can get to them through the top of the gaerbox, and reatach/replace them. If it's not that I'd say the mainshaft nut has striped it's thread and come off (though you normally get some warning that this is comming). If that's the case you need to get hold of a new nut, drop the transfure box off of the gearbox, and replace the nut. But whatever it is, from your description I'd deffinatly say your problem is gearbox based.

cheers for that m8,also now when i run the engine theres a rattle/rumble from gear box untill i press the cluch then its gone so does this tell u which one of the 2 problems it is????you say that u usely get some sort of warning when the nut goes could u say what the warnings signs r???
