Loose rear foglamp and condensation inside the cabin

Forum:

Hi All,

Was cleaning the YRV at the weekend and noticed the rear fog lamp to be rather loose. I have yet to have a look further, but I take it it's held on inside somewhere?

Also with the colder wheather, I have noticed that the inside of my YRV fogs up really badly. Are they all like this? Any tips to stop this from happening? Takes for ever in the mornings for the heater to clear it out.

Anticipate your repsones.

Thanks in advance, Jon.

Whre do you top up the air-conditioning?

Well had a look at the YRV manual that came with the car. Looks like I'll have to remove the rear bumper to get at the rear fog lamp. So just hope the lamp is okay in the condition it's in now.

Still have an issue with the bad inside front screen condesnation. When the heaters kick in to deal with it, I'm getting a lot of water dropping on the dash board. Does anyone else suffer with this much condensation? Help

On another note. When looking inside the engine bay, I couldn't see where you top up the air-conditioning. Anyone know where this is? Scratch one-s head

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Jon,
sounds like your having a few teething problems.
Rear bumpers held on with several easy to get to bolts, so comes off quite easy.
Give the car a good drying out, heater on full, set to screen and footwell, widow slightly down, that should do the trick.
Use RAIN X ANTI FOG liquid, great stuff, needs a bit of elbow grease to apply properly but worth it. I also use RAIN X ANTI RAIN on the front screen, side windows and mirrors. Fun driving fast down the motorway, raining hard no wipers on - rain just beads and blows away!!
Air con filler is to the back right of the battery, grey cap and view window thingy.
Sounds like you need a technical manual??? Wink

Regards, Dave.

Rain X Anti fog?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the response. I was in the local Halfords the other week on the look out for something that will help. Didn't see the RAIN X Anti fog. Is this readily available?

A service manual maybe a good idea. Wink

Condensation inside the YRV

I sometimes get a fair amount of condensation inside my YRV Turbo, I put it down to the amount of glass including the 'moon roof'!

I live in a very wet & windy area, so a fair amount of water come in on your feet, jackets etc etc.

Check that your car isn't leaking by lifting up the mats and feeling around the carpets etc, also lift out the boot floor and check that no water is sloshing around the spare wheel well.

I often have the heater and aircon on to keep the cabin nice and dry, which is a result of also owning a convertible and being paranoid about leaks!

BTW, the CD rom based service manual is an absolute must for all YRV owners.

Never had condensation in

Never had condensation in mine.
Always bone dry, even when the front upper screen rubber came adrift.
Repaced under warranty.
Yes, bumper off for fog light. Brilliant design!!
Looks like you should have bought mine Jon!!
Dave.

Thanks Dave. Want to do a straight swop?

Hi Dave,

Yeah. Just done a search on wet carpets on this forum. And I'm fearing I may have a broken heater matrix. Great! Sad

The passenger footwell under the mat is absolutley soaking in the middle. Just have to pat the carpet with my hand and water spews off the carpet. Scratch one-s head

Fancy a swap Dave? Biggrin

Don't think its the heater matrix....

Still have the wet passenger side carpet problem Shok . Checked the coolant and it's still showing full. The water that's on the carpet is clear and has no coolant look or smell (yes DAve I'm not licking it Biggrin ).
Looking at where the water is coming from, there are 3 water trails coming from behind the centre console. So the question is. Where is the leak?
Tried the RAIN-X anti-fog, and it does nothing. The front windscreen is really bad in the mornings, with water droplets pouring off the windscreen when I have the blowers on Sad . Has anyone experienced this on their YRV?

Wet carpets. That could be

Wet carpets. That could be the aircon condensate drain not flowing out of the car - look at that B$ ripping any heaters out....

Fogging. You can always tell on a Vectra that the pollen filter has breathed it's last when it all fogs up - do these YRV's have a pollen filter also?

Cheers Dave,

Will have a look at that.

Had a look the other day and noticed a drip coming from the floor heater exhaust on the passenger side.

Windscreen appears to have been the problem....

Well had the car in at the local dealership. It appaears the windscreen fitted is not the standard windscreen the car was sold with. It also appears that the replacement screen wasn't fitted properly. This has now been done. Just have to wait and see if anymore drips happen.

Heres hoping. Smile

Found Rain-X anti fog....

Hi Dave,

Went to another Halfords local to me. And found the anti fog, and ended up buying 2 bottles. For some reason the rain-x stuff had it's own shelf, therefore probably why I couldn't find it the first time round.

Halfords will have it somewhere i'm sure. They are getting better for stuff and same with price too. Noticed they do the very hard to source Extralube ZX1 friction additive, i swear by the stuff, i'm sure its what help my GTti turbo unit last 100k and still going strong!!
Seen Rain x on ebay, think nearly every back street spares shop will have some, i know ones round here do. There are various other makes that are similar and probably as good??
Would not be without my manual, worth every penny!!!

Hi YRV130,

Yep found a very soggy squelchy carpet on the passenger side. Now found where I'm getting condensation from. Question is, how the heck has the carpet got so wet!

This is getting serious.......................

After last nights rain, I came to the car to find it was all fogged up inside. When I looked at the front footwells, there was an inch of water in each of them. Ended up taking out the front rugs carefully and tipped the water off them. Then ended up getting a sponge to suck up the excess water. I feel I have a leak coming in from the black plastic pieces at the bottom of the front windscreen. Are these easy to take off? Any ideas on how to clogg this leak? As this is causing me grief now.

Thanks.

Jon.

WET

Hi Jon,
can think of various ways water might get in a car.
Some people throw big buckets of water at the screen when cleaning and can send water down the heater intake.
I once had water get in my Charade Gtti that had me baffled for a while.
One of the plastic scuttle trims found at the bottom of the screen has a rubber grommet to seal the clip hole leading into the cab.
The rubber perishes with time and falls apart, water gets in.
Could not believe how much could get through such a small hole but it did!!
Has the car had a front accident that might have cracked the bulkhead.
The screen is bonded in but if its been replaced it might not have been sealed properly, i know fitters try to use the least black sealant cos its pricey.
Check the screen drain gutter is not blocked again causing water to over flow into the heater duct.
Check your front door seals, it might be running down from there.
You may have to get a friend to pour the hose pipe over the car while you look up the dash etc.
The carpets are plastic backed so water is not running underneath them from anywhere else along the floor. Its clearly dripping on to it in that area.
Also you should be able to see water trace/run marks on the bulk head wall if it was running down it, pull the carpet back in the foot wells and have a look.
Can you not take it back to the dealers you bought it from??
Good luck!!
Regards,
Dave.

Thanks Dave... Looks like a couple of places.

Hi Dave,

Looks like the leak is in a couple of places. Noticed 3 water trails from behind the dash (Could be condensation from the windscreen running back down?). But noticed this morning when driving into work that a couple of drips of water coming from where the Sunvisor clips in, dripping directly onto the carpet and missing the dashboard. On closer inspection of the windscreen and the panaormaic sunroof, there appears to be 2 gaps where the bonding runs up the windscreen and intersects with the Panaoramic sunroof bond. Have a feeling it's getting in there Blush .

On taking it back to the dealers. I bought it from a one man band dealer who provided me with a 2 month Warranty which has now run out. I now however have it booked in at the local Daihatsu dealership to have a look at. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the helpful advice. By the way it is not detering me from getting rid of the car. As I still like the drive and performance. Wink
