Rip off brake shoe price for 1997 Hijet from Daihatsu

Forum:

Had to obtain a set of brake shoes from Daihatsu for my Hijet as could not find any other supplier anywhere. This type contains the arm attachment for the handbrake and the snail cam brake adjuster, total price nearly £90! Anyone else looking for the same be advised the listing for that year can come up with the wrong part, even using the chassis vin number. The manufacturer name on the ones I got is: Ricambi, and the part no: 0449587Z01000.

Wouldn't be so bad had I not also had to buy a suspension arm for £130 at the same time.

I had the same experience....

rear brake shoes are dealer only parts and are indeed a rip off, as I found out when I required them for my hijet (registered November '96).... Front brake pads you can get from a motor factors.

Daihatsu snare you by making the vans cheap to buy then hammer you when you need spare parts. A bit like Epson with printers... they make their printers at almost a loss then charge a fortune for ink and parts.

Tailgate struts

I went to buy some tailgate struts, and was told that one was slightly different to the other ( don't know what the difference is ). One is £85, and the other £86 both plus v.a.t. Needless to say, I made do with a brush pole until I got a pair from the scrapyard for £5 each. I agree that the price of parts for these vans is horrendus, having had to buy other parts in the past. I think we may be paying the boat fare for the parts from Japan ( although some parts come from Italy ).

Parts

Hey guys,

Always check Ebay for bits. A lot of breakers on there selling parts. Sometimes you have to phone them. There are usually brake pads and shoes for sale for the older versions of the Hi-Jet.
