Sportrak Folding Roof

Forum:

Hi All,

I've just got a Sportrak after being a landie man in a previous life!

It's a great little car and, whilst only on road tyres at the min, handles pretty ok off-road too! Smile

I'd like to get hold of a folding roof for the summer but have tried Google to no avaial. Anyone got any idea where I could get one from?

Thanks,
Adam

They do crop up from time to time on ebay, I paid £100 for a good second hand one for the wifes car.

There was an ebay shop selling them but I cant find it, Don't worry they tend to apear in the spring/summer time.

I'll keep an eye out nearer the summer.

What about the fixings if I get a 2nd-hand one?

Soft Top

The fixings should come with the roof and the threaded holes are already in the body once the hard top is removed.

There were two types of soft top although the common one was just for the rear end. They also produced one that included the sun roof area but I have yet to see one and would be surprised if oe came up.

I have a Daihatsu original which I have used rarely and one of the securing clips came away on the first attachment to the car. I was not impressed with the soft top made by Daihatsu as it fitted poorly and looked like a cheap pram. So if you can find an alternative to their own then I would.

My hard tops both leak in heavy rain. I have had the two off and replaced the front seal on the worse with that from the soft top. It still leaks. Any suggestions and has any one had the same problem. I thought I had cured it witl silicone but very short lived.n SPORTRAK

Just a suggestion, can you find one with a top on and fabricate the metalwork, if so an old trick we used to perform was to make them up from tent canvas.

If you have a partner who is adept at sewing, it is perfectly possible, tent canvas is available in a variety of colours, and all the accessories such as zips, studs, reinforcing, windows, etc are all readily available.

Some care is required with the maintenance though, annually it will need a coating of waterproofer, this seals the fabric, and as it says, waterproofs the material. Advantages are that by annually waterproofing with coloured waterproofer, your top will look pristine even after a few years.

If you have the capability, you can design and make a bespoke top to suit your individual requirements.
